Today’s herb from our list of 12 Healing Herbs from the Bible is Cassia

The health benefits of these herbs have been scientifically proven, and including them in your lifestyle can promote overall health and well-being.

Cassia is an essential oil that was used in the holy anointing oil. It has similar aromatic properties as cinnamon.

Although not commonly used today, cassia can offer numerous benefits for natural hair care.

    Bible Herbs

You may be surprised to learn that most commercial ground cinnamon is actually cassia or a combination of cinnamon and cassia. This practice is permitted with no restriction by most countries, including the United States. So cassia is not necessarily another name for cinnamon; it is a completely different spice, although they are related.

Number seven on our list of 12 healing herbs from the Bible is Myrrh

    Mathew 2:11

Myrrh is a gum resin that comes from the bark of certain trees.

It has been mentioned severally in the Bible, including during the birth of Jesus, His death, and the purification of Queen Esther.

Myrrh was a common ingredient in the holy anointing oil for consecrating kings, priests, and the Tabernacle. It was also used for fragrance and for embalming dead bodies because it can kill bacteria and other microbes.

Today, myrrh oil is primarily used to fight infections as it can increase white blood cells that help the body fight infections and other diseases.

    Myrhh

In medieval Europe myrrh was also regarded as rare and precious; but in modern commerce, it is of trifling value. Modern uses are chiefly as an ingredient in dentifrices, perfumes, and stimulating tonics and as a protective agent in pharmaceuticals. Myrrh has slight antiseptic, astringent, and carminative properties and has been employed medically as a carminative and in tinctures to relieve sore gums and mouth. The essential oil distilled from myrrh is a constituent of certain heavy perfumes.

    Anise Matthew 23:23

Anise is an annual plant whose leaves, seeds, and stems were used for different purposes, including medicinal benefits.

It was often referred to as a comforter of bowels and was commonly used in traditional wedding cakes. These cakes were eaten at the end of the feast to help prevent indigestion and flatulence. Today anise can be used for the same purpose to relieve indigestion and fight flatulence.

    Anise

Aniseed is widely used to flavor pastries; it is the characteristic ingredient of a German bread called anisbrod. In the Mediterranean region and in Asia, aniseed is commonly used in meat and vegetable dishes. It makes a soothing herbal tea and has been used medicinally from prehistoric times. The essential oil is used to flavor absinthe, anisette, and Pernod liqueurs.

    Britannica.com

Star anise is rich in B-complex vitamins, such as niacin and riboflavin, which carry a wide range of health benefits when consumed. Riboflavin boosts skin, eye, and nervous system health, and is a key player in red cell production. It also helps break down carbohydrates and turn them into energy. Niacin is equally important in breaking down carbs into energy and also has a role in regulating blood sugar levels. It helps with the production of hormones, affecting serotonin and adrenal hormones.

Today, many of these herbs are still used in alternative medicine and by modern doctors who realize the power of natural healing.

The 12 Healing Herbs of the Bible

    Let’s start with Aloe

The Egyptians uses aloe vera to help mummify dead bodies. This makes sense because worms and bacteria that help decomposition cannot survive alongside aloe vera.

After Jesus Christ was taken off the cross, aloe vera was one of the plants bought to prepare his body for burial

Cleopatra did use aloe vera on her whole body including her hair and nails to keep her looking younger.

    Historical uses of Aloes

    1. Enhance deep sleep. 2. Rub a drop above the eyebrows in a wide circle around the eye 1-3 times daily to help with vision. 3. Used as cologne. 4. Combined with bath salts for a relaxing bath. 5. Used for dry chapped skin and wrinkled skin. 6. Used for acute or chronic diarrhea, rub on the stomach area. 7. Place a drop on cold sores to help them heal. 8. Massage in hair and on the scalp to retard graying. 9. Put a drop on an incision to speed wound healing. I will explore each one of these uses and bring you results.

The Spanish used Aloe and carried it with them to their new world colonies in South America and the Caribbean. Not that this considerable pedigree should call forth images of primitive peoples and their witch doctors.

The plant is widely known in Asia and the Pacific and is found in the folklore of the Japanese, the Philippines, and the Hawaiians.

  • Bloodroot plants, Sanguinaria canadensis, get their name from the dark red sap found in the stems and roots, which resembles blood. The colored juice from the stems of bloodroot plants can also be used to make red, pink, and orange dyes. You should wear gloves when working with bloodroot plants and practice bloodroot plant care as leaves and other plant parts are skin irritants to some.

Bloodroot is a perennial, herbaceous flowering plant native to eastern North America. It is the only species in the genus Sanguinaria, included in the poppy family.

The roots also served medicinal purposes as an emetic, gastrointestinal aid, tuberculosis remedy, and dermatological treatment for cuts, sores, and poison ivy.

Bloodroot contains a bright red sap with antiseptic properties. For many years it was used in commercially produced toothpaste. Bloodroot ( Cornell) click here for more information.
