Rue is a short-lived perennial herb with a small, shrub-like growth habit. It features aromatic, blue-green foliage with a fern-like. The parts that grow above the ground are used to make medicine. Be careful not to confuse rue with goat’s rue (Galega officinalis) and meadow rue (Thalictrum species).

Despite serious safety concerns, rue is used as a medicine for a long list of conditions. It is used for digestion problems including loss of appetite, upset stomach, and diarrhea. It is also used for heart and circulation problems including pounding heart (heart palpitations) and “hardening of the arteries” (arteriosclerosis). Rue

One of the plants mentioned in Luke 11:42 as subject to tithe: in the parallel passage, Matthew 23:23, anise and cummin are mentioned. Ruta graveolens (Natural Order, Rutaceae) is the official rue, and a very similar species, R. chalepensis, is indigenous. Rue is a small shrub growing 2 to 4 ft. high with a heavy odor, disagreeable to Westerners, but a favorite with Orientals. A sprig of rue is often fixed on a child’s cap or clothes as a kind of charm. Bible Studies

Herb can be used in small amounts, Goldenseal. European settlers adopted it as a medicinal plant, using it for a variety of conditions. Currently, goldenseal is promoted as a dietary supplement for colds and other respiratory tract infections, allergic rhinitis (hay fever), ulcers, and digestive upsets such as diarrhea and constipation. Goldenseal

Side effects of goldenseal include irritation of the mouth and throat, nausea, increased nervousness, and digestive problems. However, side effects are rare. The liquid forms of goldenseal are yellow-orange and can stain.

One of goldenseal’s chief constituents, berberine, has been reported to cause uterine contractions and increase levels of bilirubin, so this herb should not be used during pregnancy unless directed by a health professional. Goldenseal is sold in capsules, powder, tincture, and tea. There is no recommended daily allowance for goldenseal. Goldenseal Caution

What part of tansy is poisonous? All of its parts are toxic, with the highest amount of alkaloids in flowers, then leaves, roots, and stems. The plant remains toxic when dried in hay. In the summertime, with showy yellow flowers standing tall, tansy ragwort is easy to identify

Despite historically being commonly used as a flavoring, bitter-tasting tansy contains a toxic essential oil that can cause liver and brain damage and even kill humans and other animals. On a less lethal level, it can also prompt an allergic reaction in some individuals when touching the leaves.

First I would like to apologize if some of my posts keep showing up twice, I had some issues with my network, and had to be reset.

My dangerous herbs list is coming to an end. Celandine is a small genus of flowering plants in the poppy family, This genus is native to northern Africa and Eurasia, where they are widespread, ranging from western Europe to east Asia. This genus consists of herbaceous perennials. Leaves are alternate and deeply lobed.

    Celandine Plant

Celandine prefers disturbed areas with moist soil. The sap is irritating to the skin and eyes, making the plant unpalatable to most foragers. It is highly toxic to humans if ingested; however, it is commonly used in medicines. When broken, it reveals an orange-yellow sap. *Sap is irritating to the skin and eyes, and highly toxic if ingested.

Celandine was an admired medicinal plant during the Middle Ages, mostly used to cure eye diseases, throat cleansing, treatment of ulcers and skin eczema as well as against colic and jaundice (Mayer et al., 2003).

This plant is unpalatable to horses and a much larger concern during drought conditions. However, its extreme toxicity means that grazing pastures should be carefully watched for these sunny blossoms. Celandine contains isoquinoline alkaloids which can be deadly.

  • Henbane is a plant. The leaf, flowering tops, and seeds are used to make medicine. But henbane contains chemicals that are poisonous, particularly in high doses. Don’t confuse henbane, sometimes called “fetid nightshade” or “stinking nightshade,” with bittersweet nightshade or deadly nightshade (belladonna). Henbane might also relieve muscle tremors and have a calming effect. If doses are too high, these chemicals can be poisonous. WebMD Henbane

The history of henbane, similar to other highly poisonous and notorious members of this family such as mandrakes and daturas, can be traced back to at least 4,000 B.C., throughout southern and central Europe and Eurasia.

Black henbane (Hyoscyamus niger) has a long history as a notorious toxic as well as a beneficial medicinal plant. The pale yellow, bell-shaped flowers with purple veins are a diagnostic feature of this species. During the Middle Ages, henbane was known as “Witches Herb,” one of the major ingredients used in an ointment that gave the hallucinatory sensation of flying. Henbane USDA

  • Bitter Sweet is a North American poisonous woody vine (Celastrus scandens) of the staff-tree family having clusters of small greenish flowers succeeded by yellow capsules. The stem is used to make medicine. The LEAVES and BERRIES are poisonous.

People take bittersweet nightshade for skin conditions including eczema, itchy skin, acne, boils, broken skin, and warts. They also take it for joint pain (rheumatism), other types of pain, and fluid retention; and as a calming agent sedative.

King County, Washington, it is classified as a Weed of Concern, and control is recommended, especially in natural areas that are being restored to native vegetation and along stream banks where nightshade can interfere with fish habitat. Bittersweet

Should your child consume these berries your first plan of action is poison control, they are the one-stop shop for identifying the organism, helping you understand treatment options, and ensuring your child’s health. This number is programmed in your contacts? Right!?

When dealing with poisonous plants (or venomous animals) it’s best to call the state poison control office that you are currently in. The reason for this is simple. The people assisting you deal with YOUR poisonous plant on a frequent basis and therefore have personal experience that goes far beyond what someone can read off a database.

They don’t just talk with families when a child encounters a toxic plant. They discuss treatment options with your doctors and they follow up with the child when they go home.

Black henbane (Hyoscyamus niger) has a long history as a notorious toxic as well as a beneficial medicinal plant. The pale yellow, bell-shaped flowers with purple veins are a diagnostic feature of this species. The plants grow up to 36 inches tall and have hairy leaves that are sticky to the touch. The history of henbane, similar to other highly poisonous and notorious members of this family such as mandrakes and daturas, can be traced back to at least 4,000 B.C.

Can cause loss of muscular control, dilation of the pupils, heart palpitation, hallucinations, delirium (“madness”), and in large doses, coma, and death. The most commonly used magical and medicinal species in Europe were Hyoscyamus niger (black henbane) and H. albus (yellow or white henbane).

During the Middle Ages, henbane was known as “Witches Herb,” one of the major ingredients used in an ointment that gave the hallucinatory sensation of flying. This gave rise to the witch on a broomstick archetype that lasts to this day. Henbane induced a sense of body suspension and flight, but on the next day, the person would remember nothing of what had happened.

The Greeks and Gauls poisoned their arrows and javelins with a decoction of henbane. Henbane was used to treat earaches, rheumatism, sciatica, and insomnia until relatively recently. This information was provided by USDA Henbane

When we talk about the pyramids how much do you know? Does your knowledge go back to 663 BCE? A lot of us have heard of the Nubien Queen thinking she was an Eygtian has always been a belief that I was told but now I learn that Kush was also on the Nile and had Pharaohs. Kush was important to Egypt due to their love for gold. The area produced gold and was conquered by the Egyptian Pharaohs of the Eighteenth Dynasty (1540-1295), and became Egyptianized. Nubian
